Bob Sullivan was born in Calgary, Alberta in 1973. When his father wasn't showing him how to throw a ball, shoot a puck or swing a club, Bob was sitting down with his mother to watch movies.
His earliest sports memories include Reggie Jackson’s three home runs in Game 6 of the 1977 World Series and The Mud Bowl between the Minnesota Vikings and the Los Angeles Rams during the 1977 Christmas holidays. He has rooted for the Rams ever since. Bob’s mother insists For The Love of Benji to be his first movie but remembers his first viewing of Star Wars as clear as day.
Bob spent his youth idolizing Eric Dickerson, Mike Bossy, Mike Liut, Curtis Strange; became caught up in the improbable 1984 Detroit Tigers season; lived and died with every game for the 1985-86 Hartford Whalers and spent hours on his driveway imitating Michael Jordan. Bob has since realized that you must suffer as a sports fan. Therefore, he continues to support the Rams and now follows the Calgary Flames, Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Raptors.
Bob studied at The University of Calgary and earned degrees in Commerce and Actuarial Mathematics. While attending university, he became known locally as “Blockbuster Bob” by recommending his best bets to customers.
Soon after graduation, Bob was hired as an actuary by a global human resources company. He has remained with the company as a Senior Consultant and specializes in retirement benefits. His experience consulting has helped Bob hone his ability to communicate complex technical issues.
With the infusion of social networking into our lives, Bob resurrected his Blockbuster Bob role and began reviewing movies for friends and family in 2007. His new found penchant for writing led to an opportunity in 2012 to contribute content periodically for SportingCharts.com where Bob has meshed his experience as an actuary with his infatuation for sports. During 2013, Bob created and launched topfortysports.com – a website dedicated to the sports teams and figures making news each week and what the world is saying about them.
Bob married the love of his life in 2006 and they have four children. His three daughters and one son love digging into a bowl of popcorn in front of a movie as much as they enjoy taking batting practice from their father.
